Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE MERLE ANDERSON Merle Anderson, wife of Melvin (Bud) Anderson, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, March 5, 2007 at the age of 78 years. Merle will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 49 years, and by her three children, daughter Gert (Karl); sons, Kim (Donna) and Curt (Pam). Mom had seven grandsons and two granddaughters as well as 15 great-grandchildren. Merle is also survived by her two brothers, Ron and Melvin; five sisters, Gladys, Marlene (Gil), Jean, Myrna (Romeo), Mardella (Gerry); sister-in-law Marlene; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Merle was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Gertrude Monkman; four brothers and one sister; as well as two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. Merle grew up in Balsam Bay, where she met and married Melvin. They moved to Beausejour and lived there for 14 years. She worked at the sewing factories for many years, following that they then moved to Winnipeg for a time, before finally moving back to Balsam Bay, which was home for the last 20 years. Merle was very involved in the community. She was a member of the Woman's Auxiliary for St. Jude's Church, she also worked with the Grand Marais senior's club as well as the Grand Marais Rec Hall. One of her most committed work was the St. Jude's Cemetery where she worked for many years doing fundraising every summer to maintain and upkeep the cemetery. Merle also belonged to the Selkirk Legion #42 and was an active member of the Over 60 club and Ladies Auxiliary. Merle was well known for her quilt making. All her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren received a quilt from her which they will have to cherish for many years. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on 5A 5E of the St. Boniface Hospital for the excellent care of mom in the last three months. Also Pine Falls Hospital for their care of mom. We love you mom, and you will be missed very much. It was hard to let you go but we saw how tired you were. Rest in peace mom and we hope Uncle Gib is playing you a tune in heaven. We love you. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. (viewing at 6:00 p.m.) Sunday, March 11 from Christ Church Anglican, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk, MB. Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 12 from Christ Church Anglican, Selkirk. Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. Interment to follow at Balsam Bay Cemetery. Pallbearers are her grandsons, honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters. Arrangements in care of Curtis Monkman Funeral Director for Prairieland Aboriginal Funeral Home, 226-7581.
